AT&T Pays $26k for Ugly U-Verse Boxes. Lakewood Next?

Post by David Lay »

Over the years several communities have gotten upset about the AT&T VRAD cabinets required to deliver the company's U-Verse FTTN/VDSL service. In some areas, complaints involved anger of AT&T ignoring easement rights or childhood traffic dangers, while in other markets the complaints have been aesthetic or property-value driven. In San Francisco, community opposition to installing 725 six-foot-tall utility cabinets was so heated, AT&T had to shelve expansion plans until just recently.

Each of those devices in Lakewood has an address. Shouldn't they be paying property taxes?

Have we all just be "Called" again?

And, just to play along, why would AT&T pay property taxes when City Hall just loves tax abatements?

Come on, Bill!

I am working on various tax rates that should b paid to Lakewood, based on the square
footage as measured.

Let's see, I figure, lose $50,000 with AT&T, $350,000 with our trees, $100,000 letting
private schools use Lakewood Rec stuff, and we are talking real money pretty soon.

Hell if the head of the Public Works Committee paid any attention to facts, he would have
seen almost $500,000 slip through the fingers of the people he was supposed to be
overseeing and that would have paid for backyard trash collection for 15 years!

I think it is a good "Call"

Some should revisit, http://lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2696&hilit=uverse

Where Lakewood City Council rolled over for AT&T violating contracts with others in a rush
to help one ex-Lakewoodite and ex-councilman whose education at Havard was basically
paid for by AT&T get this though Lakewood council.

Talk about grabbing one's ankles!
