New mural on Detroit

Raze a couple old buildings, put up some new faceless soulless mall buildings with murals
that proclaim "Historic" and very few will every notice the difference.

After all, "historic" to Gen X and younger is their last Tweet.

Like the Republicans calling more oil drilling and coal gathering on public land "clear skies."

I do not ever remember a "Mail Pouch" sign in Lakewood. However I do remember maybe
10 walls painted with "Dairyman's" or other sales slogan. I think Keith Jewlers had a sign
at one time, Geiger's etc.. I love painted signs, from both an art and owning a sign shop
point of view.

What I found amusing, was tearing down old, putting up new, and declaring "Historic
Detroit Avenue" reminded me instantly of the "clear skies." Do one thing, declare another
people just swallow it up. Never mind the revisionist history of Lakewood, with the photo
supplied by the Chamber I believe.

Betsy observed, I found it ironically funny.

Mail Pouch, hmmmmmmmmmm they did a calendar of Mail Pouch barns, maybe we could
do one of Historic Lakewood. McDs, Quaker Steak, both Dunkin Donuts, maybe the
Social Security offices, CVS and their "neue/olde streetcar faux feeling."

I am befuddled by the slam on Quaker Steak; they are active in community participation. As far as I can tell, they invited most of the city to their Grand Opening, they offer a 20% discount to anyone who comes in uniform after a game of softball, they sponsor Lakewood-centric events (Light Up Lakewood, for one). They put up an old photo of Lakewood on the side of their building when they could have used it for advertising. Why can't we just say thank you?

I missed the slam from me ever on Quaker Steak and Lube. I still go to the one in Sheffield
Lake, and the one here in Lakewood. I have worked with them on many things, and
applauded them many time for their jumping in to help Lakewood charities and events.
I thought they went over the top, when they had someone at an event in the spring, days
after they announced they were coming here. Talking with the owner of the chain, he truly
likes communities like Lakewood, and understood what Lakewood was about, and I
reported that. I bet I have been there more than you, or most people reading this.

I like murals, good ones, and generally commercial murals are good ones.

But I suppose people often miss the nuances of my point. My fault.

The Observer was, at one time, about people's "observations."

It is good. It is a classic Lakewood photo.

The Plaza is much better than I thought, though, the entirety of the "neue Lakewood look"
seems more like Westgate, than Crocker Park. In other words, strip mall compared to
mixed use living.

Actually there are some other interesting questions as well. The photo is copyrighted, but
someone in the city downloaded it a website, and therefore has always thought the image
to be of free of restrictions and usage. However if you go to the website you can see that
they are copyrighted, and ask for a mention of the source in every use.
