The latest census figures show that Northeast Ohio continues to lose population. I suspect that the figures for Cuyahoga County are worse than the region.

We are at the point where the opening of one new bar or restaurant means the closure of another.

Over the next few years technology will eliminate millions of jobs. The only area of growth is in the medical field.

Add in this summer's big Cleveland Ad the Republican National Convention, which is shopping up to be a major nightmare. No other big events fo protesters lining up around the country to come be on TV. Meanwhile police are falling short, which might be for the best as major sponsor after major sponsor pulls out. Coke leaving, parties being canceled around town...

This is the problem with so much of this... critical thought.

Quaker Steak made a concerted effort to remain inside the established commercial footprint for that property. They respected their neighbors, they were sensitive to the very important balance between commercial and residential interests. They believed in establishing a sense of balance. They took that position at a time when Drug Mart and the Summers administration, under the orchestration of Mr. Siley, chose to step all over Grace Ave.They put a parking lot where an apartment building (on zoned residential property) stood. They put a dumpster where a back yard was. They put trucks and semis, despite promises to the contrary, onto Grace Avenue. All the while lying and playing games to get their way. Big Daddy did everything he could to ensure the ascendency of commercial interests in Lakewood at the expense of the residents he pretends to represent.

So true Mo, their destroying "Lakewood" what are they thinking? "What is the master plan" ? Who's in charge? Hillary ? They're killing me... Why aren't they replacing beautiful old building and apartments and houses in Tremont, Ohio City? Detroit Shoreway. Kamms, Why in Lakewood. WHY//// Shame on the developer who destroyed the beautify, vintage old brick building, Bishoff's Decorating, built around 1922, GONE I toured the building, beautiful, just crying to be saved and great again, and better. Like my apartment is, I would have, but I'm too old, I'm tired, I can't fight, but I can still voice my thoughts, now it's gone, and Drug Mart did the same thing, torn down a beautiful old, code compliance apartment building, 8 suites?, SWEET. it's gone, Detroit Theater, Gone. cozy memorable, quint old fashioned Lakewood, Detroit Theater, a date, some popcorn and a movie. gone, it should have been saved, .. WORTH MUCH MORE IN HISTORY and heritage THAN A HAMBURGER JOINT. The destruction of Lakewood is a crime, if someone will give me an outlet, I will protest.. IT SHOULD NOT BE ALOUD TO HAPPEN.

Save the street facing portions, the façade?, on Madison Ave. and Hillard , spend the money, redo the interior to your liking, , what ever, but save the face. What will the replacement look like? For example, The Edgewater neighborhood, the historic church on W 117th & Lake, they are going to save what can be saved, and re-use it in the new development. it would be so unique, the old face with a new body, If you had cancer in your foot, would you rather loose a foot or your life? That place could be a dynamic retail spot if saved , like family,,, the old with the new, in the old days grandparents lived with the family, and witnessed new birth. like Lakewood should be. the old with the new, buts...lets not destroy the face, the face is fine, it's the body that is falling apart.
