Quaker Steak Closed

Post by Bridget Conant »

It's being reported on multiple sites that employees were told suddenly that the restaurant is now closed.

Very sorry for the employees.

The bar and restaurant business is incredibly difficult and risky....which is why I'm alarmed that our city is increasingly dependent on it.

The city needs a solid business that has 1,000 well paid employees to be solvent. It is sad for the employees.

Bad service and lousy food. Everything was deep fried.

There was a lot of excitement over QSL when they opened, but it didn't continue long term. I'm not sure it was a good fit for Lakewood either the food (arguably the food was the same type as many other restaurants and bars) and the outside decor.

So sorry for the employees, that area is saturated with restaurants, more restaurants than parking. Maybe they should consider moving south to Madison Avenue, there's plenty of room for development.

I loved their food...I loved being able to take my dog with me on the patio while I ate. I normally had a foster dog with me with an "adopt me" vest on and would get some interest. Even had a few applications come in for a few dogs after those outings. Sad that yet another business is gone...

This is too bad. Such a big investment down the drain.

It probably was not the best fit for the "healthiest city in the country" anyway, huh Mayor Summers? Is Toby behind this closure too? I wouldn't put it past him.

Ah dang. I liked their wing bar nights. But the price on the buffet was ridiculous. And it was too loud in there - not from the patrons but from their stereo.

I will now have to settle for one of the other 40 mom and pop bars that have quality and AFFORDABLE wings as well as stellar happy hours. Good riddance.

Reading that other topic, QSL came in with pretty high hopes. I remember the first few months the Drug Mart parking lot was jammed and they put up special signs with security turning non-customers away. They had several parking lot car events, but I don't recall the motorcycles ever showing up. It seemed like that all quieted down in about a year. They were pretty cooperative with fundraising days (percentage to the group of charity specified), but were hard to get on the phone in the last year.

I think Quaker Steak was a good neighbor. They changed several of their common business practices to accommodate their location, and neighbors, in Lakewood.

Yes but those platforms help us identify haters, lovers, troll, psychopaths, stalkers and more.

And even discuss important things among those moments.

Quaker Steak and Lube tried be a good Lakewoodite from the moment they signed their contract. Months before opening they were giving awards, helping groups out and at every public event handing out re licorice. Manager and staff were mostly Lakewoodites, and they were open for discussions about anything that would make it better or work with any group.

In the end, the chain went bankrupt, Travel Centers of America bought them out, and I am sure they will be a part of the travel Centers truck stops.

I would say this more a manifestation of a small group that are desperate to get big box chains into Lakewood.

Also there is this little thing of 128 places to buy prepared food in 5 square miles.
