Lakewood Declares Emergency Snow Parking Ban

Post by Melissa Garrett »

The following press release was issued by the City of Lakewood today:

Lakewood Mayor Edward FitzGerald, serving as the Director of Public Safety, has issued an emergency snow parking ban in the city per Lakewood Codified Ordinances Sections 351.26 and 351.27, effective 8:00 AM on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. Parking is not permitted on any street in the City of Lakewood until snow plowing operations are completed.

Parking is available in City of Lakewood Municipal Parking Lots located throughout the city and at Lakewood Park, 14532 Lake Avenue and Madison Park, 13029 Madison Avenue.

Weather reports indicate snow and ice are expected throughout the day.

“An Emergency Snow Ban is being issued for the safety of all of our residents,â€￾ stated Mayor FitzGerald.

From where I sit, it looks like they're quite serious.....

There are a couple of Police cruisers on Madison waiting for the tow trucks right now!

Better get out there and move your cars!

The last storm, my street didn't get plowed til 8:00 pm that night. I guess I don't share a street with anybody important.

Keep in mind they do have a entire city of side streets to get to. and the snow is falling very fast. This is just the bricks when living in a lake effect snow area. When the snow gets dumped it gets dumped quick. I am sure the city is doing everything in their power with the resources they have to maintain the roads.

Truth is in these kind of conditions nobody should be on the road anyway.

Now I did not think that one thru when I had to drive to willoughby for work this Morning and I can assure you that none of the other city's I passed through (or ODOT for that matter) have things any more under control.

Nothin' shakin' on Shakedown Street.
Used to be the heart of town.
Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart.
You just gotta poke around.

I was happy that on our narrow street our neighbors heeded the snow parking ban and found other areas to park their cars. And I am happy that the plows came down our street at least 4 times. The problem I have is that they didn't come anywhere near the curb. So where the cars usually park is still filled with snow and now there is barely enough room to drive down our two way street. It's frustrating and I wish the plows would have done their job, I thought that was the whole point of the parking ban. It's too late to do anything now because the cars are parked there again. Oh well I am glad I have a driveway but I hope I don't clip a mirror trying to get down my street.
