“The Lakewood Film Belt Film Festivalâ€Â￾ & “Five Sta

Post by Kenneth Warren »

2008 promises to be a great year in Lakewood for film buffs.

“The Lakewood Film Belt Film Festivalâ€Â￾ is an emerging indie cultural development upon which to keep our eyes peeled. A Saturday in September at the Detroit Theater is the present hope.

One cult classic under consideration is Ted Sikora’s Hero Tomorrow.

See: http://www.herotomorrow.com

I’ll keep you posted as these details develop.

In an enhancement to “Lakewood Public Cinema,â€Â￾ Lakewood Public Library will introduce a “Five Star Filmâ€Â￾ and lecture series with Barbara Steffek-Hill . Ms. Steffek-Hill has assembled great films from around the world, including Tango (Argentina - Carlos Saura), Mostly Martha (Germany – Sandra Nettelbeck,) and The Lighthorseman (Australia – Simon Wincer)

Watch for the program mailer, Lakewood Observer and library website http://lkwdpl.org/calendar/flicks/index.html for details.

This is fantastic. Very exciting to have something in our backyard and not just our neighbor's (such as the Ohio Independent Film Festival around W. 65th and Detroit Rd.)

Ken, is there anyone to talk to about volunteering to help out? I loved volunteering for the OIFF way back when and would love to do this again closer to home.

Also, saw Hero Tomorrow at the Cleveland International Film Festival and it was pretty cool.

Thanks for the update!

Phil
