Would love to meet and talk with them.
I have not heard on the scanner any information that would lead me to believe that seniors are being singled out and attacked.
The majority of all crimes in Lakewood would seem to be domestic, shop lifting, garage break ins, and noise complaints.

Some incidents within he last few months come to mind.
A woman about 80 years old was attacked and injured in the parking lot behind the shoe store on Detroit. This was publicized.
A young woman was robbed and punched at about 11pm in front of the Warren Avenue Post Office. A woman was robbed and injured on Summit at the railroad tracks. She was walking home from work in broad day light. In both of these cases, the predators were quickly apprehended by the police who were assisted by alert citizens. In the Summit case, citizens helped slow the assailant's escape and provided the police with the information which led to his capture and conviction. I do not think these incidents were publicized. These ladies have resided in Lakewood for most of their lives.
The two incidents referenced above are those that I happen to be aware of personally. The victims are my neighbors. I am sure there are many similar cases.
We need to be provided timely information about serious crimes which occur in our city. I am not sure why this has never been done. A well informed community is presumably a better community. The focus should be upon safety and awareness. Perhaps its in our best interest for image to take second chair to reality.
I have seen drug deals during daylight hours at the corner of Cove Ave and Detroit. I have also see a man drinking a tall boy of Bud while Lakewood's finest drove past. There is drug activity nearly around the clock at this corner. Yes, you can stand at the corner and see the police station. It makes me wonder what the Lakewood Police are doing.
Yesterday juveniles were playing football in the middle of the street and carrying on for at least a half hour straight, running in front of cars repeatedly (key word: repeatedly) forcing them to slow down, etc. on a side street adjacent to Detroit but also some on Detroit, which was fairly busy around 6pm. This was not far from UDF. These juveniles approximately 9 to 14 years old were acting like hoodlums, and included both male and female as well as multiple races, before anyone thinks I am singling out a single race or being sexist.
After awhile, cops went by and drove slowly, catching them in the act. The cops twisted their heads around and stared, but they kept driving past - I left 15 minutes later while the activity was still going on.
I'm glad you're interested in apprehending the supposed thugs.
The agent involved wasn't so concerned, was he?
Did he call the police and ask for the area to be cordoned off or searched? NO. He drove his friend home and then went to the hospital. Only then did he report it according to the Sun News. In fact, any time a shooting victim arrives at the hospital, a report would be required so it wasn't necessarily his choice to report it.
He dropped off a witness instead of allowing her to give a statement to the police before going home.
He did not attempt to follow the men or their vehicle, if only to get a license number.
All I see here is someone who made no attempt to get immediate help or action. Why?
My main point of contention here is that the story is shaky. Meanwhile, the news media enjoys reporting that two armed men attempted to rob or carjack (whichever story they are giving now) a man in Lakewood. If this story turns out to be substantially different than what has been initially reported, I'll bet you see little of it in the news.
Jeff,
I agree with your last statement. The point here should be, is the victim of the shooting ok. What the FBI does, in many cases is rarely public knowledge. If it was, they would obviously be unable to do their job properly.
In my opinion, if the question here is "How much, how often and what type of crimes occur in Lakewood, Ohio" then that is a horse of a different color.
Also, the news media providing "facts" hasn't proved to be very factual in every case. Controversy sells.
Thanks.....I think I better understand where you're coming from. I guess there's a natural expectation that an 25 year FBI agent, trained in fighting crime, would have taken some reasonable steps to provide some useful information to assist in resolving a crime in which he was the victim. Perhaps he really did, and they're just not telling us the everything.

Something tells me you've never been to an actual ghetto.
By the way I worked on the East-side for several years around the corner from the men's homeless shelter. It is pretty ghetto there....
All I know it that it has changed a lot when I drive from W 117th down past the Police Dept each night that area has become very dark. However the new Cleveland Clinic building across from Drug-mart is nice.
Personally I love Lakewood, I love the diversity of the different cultures and races in Lakewood. What I don't like are the drug dealers, car jackers, criminals and sexual predators that now call Lakewood home as well.

Today an older woman was attacked by thugs and injured while walking on Detroit at Alameda.

Suzanne,
I'd like to meet these residents -- especially if they live on Wyandotte.

I always defend the East side since I live on it now, but my uncle came in for lunch from Huron last week, and as we drove down Detroit toward Newman, he locked his door and said "Is it safe here"? I laughed because it took me by surprise. I too have worked in the ghetto, in Kinsman and other areas, so it shocked me. But I looked around and it did look shady! The construction that is not done doesn't help but it seemed sad.
I will vote for anyone who cares about all of Lakewood, safety and otherwise, as well as Madison and not just Detroit for business.
