You ignorance knows no boundaries, everyone that knows Ken knows he believes in decency and respect.

It would seem that you are alone in not being able to handle free speech. But I would expect this. I came from a miltary family, I guess you did not. Respect was ingrained in our bones. You do not repsect the board or yourself and you are certainly disrespecting your country.

Stan,

Nice Jackbooted tactic. Is that in the "manual"? You hateful talk and demands don't scare me or will they chase me away. I have looked into the eyes of men that wanted to kill me,fought for my right to free speech and I won't back down.

Maybe we will meet someday.

While there is always opportunity to laugh at posts to the LO deck, the standard of civic discourse I am attempting to achieve here with you is no joke.

Yes, I believe in free speech. However, I believe your premise about free speech diverges considerably from standard of civic discourse that informs the objectives of the LO deck.

Here’s how my LO creed greets your HAHAHAHA.

I believe in presenting facts in order to advance between people a constructive confrontation over disputed issues. (I did so with facts about Eisenhower and the Indochinese War in response to your post that called Stan Austin a liar.)

I believe in making an honest effort to understand another’s views and reasoning.

I believe in condemning the deliberate distortion of information and an unbalanced point of view.

Finally, I believe in separating the people posting to the LO Deck from the outrageous and reprehensible assertion you made about an unspeakable crime.

Perhaps you were the Terry that posted the following inquiry: “Who out there has actually earned their freedom? How many of you in Lakewood have actually stood post w/ a weapon?â€Â￾

When it comes to civic discourse the polarizing Rootin' Tootin' Son-of-a-Gun Ghost-buster use of force should be minimized.

Is that is all you care to know?

Ken,

I dont agree with what you say and that makes me "evil" to you. Sad that a website is slanted so far left that you attack whom ever doesnt quote the party line. I will not back down!

Mr. Batdorf:

You are my Lakewood neighbor. I never said you are evil.

I am not even demanding that you back down from your beliefs.

I am saying that your explosive assertion linking an unspeakable crime to the people posting liberal opinions to LO deck is factually and morally wrong.

Everybody makes mistaken assertions in the freedom of a heated Internet exhange.

I can separate the person from the mistaken assertion.

Take responsiblity for your action and your relation to the community with whom you are speaking.

Your slanderous statement crossed a line. Own it, renounce it, or clarify it.

Terry Batdorf

Are you the Terry Batdorf that served two terms in Iraq? The one that protests protesters?

Jim,

Tell me all about you and I will tell you all about me. Why so curious? Want to look me in the eye?

Once again, I refuse to back down to your agressive advances.

Mr. Batdorf:

I want to make certain that I understand you in your refusal to back down.

In your refusal to back down, you are standing by your slanderous assertion linking an unspeakable crime with people posting liberal opinions to the LO Observer?

Who are those people?

Is it on the basis of this error that you have established your boycott of LO advertisers?

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think that from here on out Around the Corner is democrats only (although if you come to the back door, a Republican can get carry out).

As a quid pro quo, John's Diner will be limited to Republicans, but either can still use the WestEnd Tavern.

So I get the corned beef hash, the black bean soup, and the wings on an incocgnito basis? I can live with that. :D

I'm in on the pizza boycott BTW but on gastronomic, not political grounds.

Sure I would love to meet you. I love Lakewoodites, and I have a bunch of very close friends that served in Iraq. The paper has featured two very large center page spreads on returning Iraqi Vets. The stories freak me out, but i find them fascinating. As I said I come from a military family and I know first hand how tough it can be. I have also had many "sessions" speaking with Iraqi vets that run from conversation over coffee, to Ken taking an Iraqi Vet out to Walmart to get and air mattress to sleep on. I dig soldiers and all they do. It is the single bravest and finest job a citizen can do for their country.

My story is pretty simple, graphic guy that has done a little of everything. Spent ever summer on a military base, when my time to sign up for Vietnam, I just couldn't. I have to admit, I was against the war, but at the time mainly because I could get drafted. It was not until later did I find out how Nixon, sold out our soldiers. when I went to the Vietnam Wall a couple years ago, It tore me up. Then I stood halfway down the way and looked to the end and cried. No only could I have been in there, but many of my friends were. And to think they died to get Nixon elected just made me sick,

Soldiers as we now know are a very rare commodity. Good soldiers even rarer. We really need to protect our men and woman that have the nerve to serve. Again, this is one of the things that bothered me. To send you, if you are that Terry, into Iraq or my best friend's brother into Afghanistan without proper Body Armor is criminal. They could have waited to outfit our men and woman. After all we now know there was no imminent threat.

At Congressman Kucinich's office the other day the meeting with Vets was about health care or lack of health care. 40 vets vented on a number of issues and I couldn't believe it. These guys are heroes, and the government is not only cutting benefits but treating some worse than illegal immigrants. What the hell is that about! National Guardsman wounded in Iraq can't go to the VA Hospital system! That is insane. Not helping disable vets get to hospitals for rehab, is nuts. This is no way to respect our soldiers.

That is why I was wondering. Plus if that was you I would love to do a story in the paper. Do you work with the local Vet group? I do. Do you go to breakfast at the Coffee Pot with the Coffee Pot Warriors? I try to make it but 8 am on Saturday is tough.

Just wondering if that was you.

Me agressive! Laughable.

Are you a Sun Post operative

Mr.Warren, obviously he's not a sun post operative because he's actually talking about something thats going on in Lakewood.

you gotta be kidding here. talk about free speech, we're not like the other lakewood based forum that edits, deletes, filters and approves all posts that are put up in their forum. We at the LO celebrate other peoples views and terry, if this site/paper is half as slanted as you claim it is then your post would've been deleted before it showed up on the website.

Theres no "thank you for your post, our administrators will review your comment and will post it if you say what we really want you to say" messages when you post something on this forum.

The Observer isn't slanted. If you want slanted, head on over to that one site which stings to read. Be grateful for having the free speech you fought for, use it as a proud citizen, one with ethics. Use it with dignity and pride, just like every other person on this forum, but don't go abuse it.

and if you want to write a story for the observer and not know about ethics that newspapers and journalists live and die by every day of their life, take some notes. Enjoy! http://www.spj.org/ethics_code.asp

A gentle word to both Mr. Warren and Mr. K.

No need to snipe at other sources to make your points. All sources (this one included) have their own strengths and limitations, and I'm happy to see them all operating. Lakewood would be at a loss without any of its current information sources, even the much-maligned PD.

More soup, please. ;)
