On Sunday, September 26th from 1 – 4pm Recess ROCKS! presented by Jordan’s Family Foundation will turn Lakewood Park into a large playground and feature dozens of energizing activities for kids and families to have fun and play while also learning a bit about healthy living. Some participating organizations include the Cleveland CAVS, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Gladiators, Traq 3D, Lakewood Board of Recreation, YMCA, American Heart Association, Cleveland Clinic, Lakewood Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and Basil and Beyond. This event will give elementary and middle school aged kids an opportunity to commit to better health through games and activities while offering parents a host of new ideas for keeping the whole family healthy.
Recess ROCKS! is geared towards about fighting childhood obesity, which in turn, can lead to heart disease. Jordan’s Family Foundation is helping make Lakewood a focal point in this fight. We are estimating approximately 2500 - 3000 children, along with their families, will take part in the fun.
A portion of Lakewood Park will be divided into activity stations where each station provides an opportunity to quickly engage kids in healthy activities while not detracting from the real purpose of the day – playing. There will also be informational booths set up throughout the event to distribute promotional material about that particular organization and their part in healthy living.
Ultimately, the goal of Recess ROCKS! is to create a fun environment for families to learn about healthy living and for kids to make a commitment to be healthy while having fun with other kids in the community.
Be sure to check out the Lakewood City Schools Dunk Tank - where principals, teachers, and School Board Members will get dunked!

Here are some of the fun and educational activities planned for those in attendance:
Games --This portion consists of several fun filled games from an obstacle course to hula hoops to a rock-climbing wall. These will be games and activities that get the blood pumping.
Slam Dunk It!--A basketball court or hard surface staffed by volunteers helps kids with their reflexes and quick motion drills as they enjoy fundamental and skill drills. This is a fun way to keep kids moving.
Walking Trail--This activity encourages kids to take a walk around the grounds of the event. Kids are provided with fun ways they can stay fit by simply walking, especially if they are not as active in other sports or games.
Fresh Farm--Provides a place for farmers and retailers to showcase local produce and allows families to learn about nutritious food options as kids try new foods through taste testing.
Check It Out!--Supplies families with information on living a healthy lifestyle and links them to resources available within the community.
