Yeah, give this a couple of days to see if it's another NEWSWEEK style error.
I'm glad that I live in Lakewood, but I'm not sure I'd travel across the country to visit.
Great home. Great travel destination?

Nothin' shakin' on Shakedown Street.
Used to be the heart of town.
Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart.
You just gotta poke around.

There were a few cars from out of State in the parking lot the other day. Melt is something of an attraction.
You wouldn't think of Erie, PA as a regional draw but we just spent three days there and had a good time. A night out, a couple hours each night at the casino, some day time trips to local wineries and the State park...
We might be nearing the saturation point for new restaurants for locals. However, some might thrive to the extent that they become regional attractions.
I think a nice hotel in Lakewood would serve as a nice "headquarters" for out of towners looking for a long weekend getaway. The only drawback for a potential developer is that they would need to acquire property.
The property that is valued at $600,000 for tax purposes would become the owners pride and joy worth at least $5 million even though it is fire damaged with a leaking roof and no tenants and generates barely enough income to pay (the unpaid) taxes.

The Melt has done more for this city than anything else I can think of. He has an national
presence. When people come here to check them out, they see the two hour wait and think
hmmmmmmmmm I would not mind some of this action.
They look around see a city of 50,000 in 5 sq miles and go, sure, lets try it.
Now the Root is doing the same on a more local level. People coming in from around
to see what is happening here.
While some will tell you they come for the flowers, the businesses and visitors have a much
different take.
While I love the Pier, and the Winchester...

The stars are aligned for Lakewood to shine. Opportunity is knocking but I fear that no one is answering the door.
Ed Fitzgerald has done a fine job of firming up City finances but he is busy securing the County Sinecure.
I fear his successor will be an aparatchik who will be content to ask for a tax increase to fund another round of raises (and pension payments) and consider the job done.
True leadership is rare and is rarely found in the existing power structure. But,,, hope springs eternal.

Opportunity has been knocking for a long time here. But many refuse to see or understand it.
Hence when an "honor" is bestowed, it is treated as something special out of the ordinary.
This morning everyone was talking.
This city really needs to read or watch The Wizard of Oz, again.
