Lakewood City And School Budgets Face The Abyss

The State of Ohio is set to increase the pension contribution rate for Cities and schools by as much as 28%.

New coverage requirements for health care may increase health insurance premiums by as much as 20%.

Republicans and Democrats in the Statehouse are faced with an $8 billion dollar deficit. They will "close" that budget gap not buy cutting State spending or salaries or benefits but by cutting the amount sent to Cities and schools.

Some school districts already spend almost as much on benefits as they do on salaries. This "reform" will make things even worse.

Which begs the questions:

How are we going to afford all of those raises?
