Thanks to our very own Jordan's Family Foundation for hosting the Recess Rocks! Community Event for Lakewood children and families on Sunday, September 26, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. See http://www.lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9310.

At our last school board meeting, the Lakewood City School District Board of Education passed the following “Resolution of Support for Recess Rocks Community Event Being Sponsored by Jordan’s Family Foundation:”

WHEREAS, Recess Rocks! is part of a national campaign by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to fight childhood obesity, which in turn, can lead to heart disease; and,

WHEREAS, Jordan’s Family Foundation would like Lakewood to be the regional host to this national campaign; and,

WHEREAS, Recess Rocks! Plans to turn a portion of Lakewood Park into a large playground featuring dozens of energizing activities for children and families to have fun and play, while also learning about healthy living; and,

WHEREAS, this event will give elementary and middle school aged children an opportunity to commit to better health through games and activities, while offering parents a host of new ideas for keeping the whole family healthy; and,

WHEREAS, Recess Rocks! can act in conjunction with Lakewood City Schools’ House Bill 1 Wellness Initiative;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lakewood Board of Education hereby affirms its support of this community event through activities including, but not necessarily limited to, event flyer distribution, event listing on the District website, displaying of events posters in District facilities, encouragement of staff participation, usage of Recreation Department and other District equipment, and participation in an informational booth about Recreation Department and other District program offering;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board encourages children and families to participate in this outstanding community event that promotes healthy lifestyles to fight childhood obesity and heart disease, the event which led to the establishment of Jordan’s Family Foundation to help serve the needs of Lakewood.

Thank you, Corey and Kara, for all you do for Lakewood!
