FATAL FIRE AT MARINE TOWERS EAST REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION

At 5:37 am this date, Lakewood Fire companies responded to a fire alarm at the Marine Towers East condominiums, located at12520 Edgewater Drive.

The fire started in apartment 1007, which was occupied by 47-year old Ralph Morenz. Mr. Morenz was treated by paramedics and transported by squad to Lakewood Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

The State Fire Marshal’s office was contacted to assist Lakewood Fire investigators at the scene. The cause of death is pending with the coroner.

The fire was confined to apartment 1007, although smoke damage spread to other building locations. The initial fire loss is estimated at $35,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
