Replacement Window Dealers

Post by d drickhamer »

We're looking at interior wood, exterior aluminum replacement windows. DIY install since the existing openings are square and it's usually a pretty straightforward process (unless you measure wrong!).

We've looked closely at the Marvin Clad Inserts, which is an exceptional window and the interior matches the detail/style of Lakewood houses. Of course their (WindowPro) prices are high: $600 each for double hung/Argon gas/tax-credit qualifying, 9 lites etc. And $1,000 each for others that are not much bigger, and they can't/won't explain why the big price jump. Install is over $200 more/window.

Now comparing Pella 850 Architectural Series from Lowe's, and it seems like I can get high end options like exterior/interior grids for around same price as the Marvins, without the odd price jump. Quality of aluminum cladding, tilt mechanism isn't quite as good as the Marvins, but better than most.

My question: Does anyone have any experience with other long-term, local dealers offering comparable solid wood interior/aluminum exterior windows? Kolbe & Kolbe and Eagle are other brands I've found mentioned, but not seen myself. Andersen I understand doesn't sell a high quality DIY insert product, but I could be wrong. Hoping someone can save me some comparison shopping time. Thanks.
