The US Army Corps of Engineers is looking for a sight to build a holding facility to contain the muck dredged from the Cleveland Port and the Cuyahoga River:

Why not build it off the coast of Lakewood?
The dredgings could provide:
a protective harbor off the coast of Lakewood Park
a breakwall for much of Lakewoods coast line
a nature preserve and park
a land for housing
a dockage for boats and recreational water craft
beaches
and best of all an opportunity to stop the corrupt and incompetent Port Authority from spending one billion dollars to move the unused port to E55 th street so the Port can stand unused there instead of unused behind Browns Stadium.
You might think the way to get this for Lakewood is to lay out the pros and cons and present a proposal to the Army Corps of Engineers. If you think that you are only half right. The other half of the effort would be to establish as many environmental and political road blocks to the Ports Plan as possible.
The really neat part to this idea is that someone else pays for it!

Re: Let The Army Corps Of Engineers Build The Peninsula Project

Bill
Here is the problem in a nutshell.
If we had gone after this four years ago, we would be two years away from adding 75+
highend acreage to Lakewood for homes, and business, lets not forget the wind farm.
It would have paid for itself, the marina, the beach, the nature center and put Lakewood on
the map as the leader in thinking.
But a very small group(sound familiar) did not like the last name of the brilliant young
woman that did the hard work on this project. So the project was never taken seriously.
Now the same small group has meetings on windmills!
Having been lucky enough to have this on display in my office for almost a year, I had a
great opportunity, to speak with many about this plan and the bits and pieces of this
project. That said it only makes sense to build the peninsula and let it pay for the rest. To
pick and choose parts is insane and will bankrupt Lakewood.
One of the best comments to come out of those coming through was from one well known
relator, "Access to the lakewould add between 10% and 20% to the value of every home
in Lakewood." My answer, "Well then why don't we make Clifton Beach public?" Well they
were not that willing to take one for the team. You know, that NIMBY thing they accuse
others of?
