Q: How many people employed in Lakewood? Downtown Lakewood?

Does anybody know, or can help where I can find the information about, how many people are employed within Lakewood? How many people employed in the Downtown Business District?

The "Downtown Business District" is hard to measure: it doesn't have distinct census or zip code boundaries. But see the attached data from NOACA- it might be better than what you're asking for - it's broken down into Transport Zone boundaries ("TEZ"). See the image below, and you'll see that our employment density in the Downtown Business District (approximately) is at least 10 / acre, which translates very roughly to about 12,000 people on the low end.

About 33,000 cars pass through the intersection of Detroit and Warren every day.

I want to take the opportunity to share information that some may ask in follow-up questions:

There are ~ 28,300 employed Lakewoodites. Our unemployment rate is 7.3%, which is high compared to recent months, but beats regional and national trends. Unemployment percentage is a measure of those who are seeking work but cannot find it. So, my 11-year-old, who doesn't work (lazy), doesn't count in the numbers. Either does my retired grandmother.

8.9% - National Unemployment Rate
10.6% - Cleveland
8.6 - Cuyahoga County
9.2% - Parma
7.3% - Lakewood
6.2% - Westlake
Not all cities have data available.

Lastly, a great way to get hard data would be through analyzing tax data. That information is confidential; even the Planning and Development Department can't access it.

Thanks Nate. That is a tremendous help. The extra figure with cars/tarffic helps as well.

I didn't mean for this question to turn into an unemployment segment, those numbers are not a part of my needs, but thank you for going above and beyond.
