Hi everybody, welcome to the PALS message board. This is a new section for open discussion within the community about Lakewood schools.

PALS is a group that grew out of bunch of parents who showed up at the library for a meeting about fifth grade health education, early last fall. At that meeting it became clear that there were many issues parents would love to discuss with each other, if they could find each other.

We decided that night that we’d provide a place where any and all parents could discuss anything that was important to them about our schools and receive feedback and support from fellow parents. We’ve been communicating by longer and longer email chains with occasional meetings and lots of coffee. We’ve decided it’s time to find a place where we can share ideas in a more efficient way, with everyone in the community.

The Observer Deck provides exactly the kind of forum we need and we’re grateful to LO for their support in setting this up. If you have a concern, a question, or something great to talk about that's happening in your school, start a thread. It is our hope that other parents will recognize their own issues and new discussion/action groups can form around these issues, the same way they have at our meetings. Our website will be up soon with more information and more ways to interact. We’ll let you know here, when that happens.

Our kids are truly Lakewood’s kids and we wanted to allow the community at large a chance to take part in what so far have been very useful and productive talks among parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, concerned teachers, friends and neighbors, even an occasional School Board member, from one end of the city to the other.
