The military opposition in Iraq has collapsed.

The Iraqi and American military have defeated Al Qaeda in Iraq. The remaining terrorist cells are without public support and are slowly withering away. The terrorists are reduced to blowing up schools and hospitals with the help of homicide bombers.

The Iraqi government has made great strides in reconciliation and reconstruction and is well on its way to being a functioning, pro-American democracy. The Iraqi government and people will be invaluable friends and allies in the coming years. An increasingly threatening Iran and Russia make that support more important than ever.

Thanks again to the men and women of the American armed forces for a job well done. Your victory is appreciated by all Americans were ever they may be. God Bless You All.

Interesting how today all of a sudden we have banged out a deal to pullout of Iraq by 2010. Of course, it all hangs on troop immunity, which will fall through once this business of the surplus has been forgotten by the media.

"Iraq has a surplus of $80 mil...Hey! Look over there! The troops are coming home! Hooray!"

It was never necessary to invade Iraq. Al Queda didn't even get established in Iraq until after the U.S. wiped out the Iraqi government. SubSaharan oil exporting countries in Africa have had leaders that make Saddam Hussein look like Thomas Jefferson for decades. It takes a lot of deliberate newscasting and framing to make one look like a threat, and the other an ally. The 9/11 attackers were all from our "strong allies" in the middle east.

Iran isn't a threat to us or the greater middle eastern region. Russia has the stature to be a threat, and will probably be molded into one just for the sake of giving our own higher ups something to do.

The inner sleaves of some books by Conservative academics and analysts often warn of passages about how to deal with the rising "chinese threat". If China poses any threat it will be as a result of the free trade deals Republicans have been foisting on us for decades. For now their only threat is the ability to offer developing countries better deals for natural resources. But it is good that China is a threat: it gives Conservatives more to get people excited about while maintaining bad domestic policies.

Reality is absurd. It is best to not get too involved.

Usually your posts are more humorous but this one rings the truth. It is so sick, the truth, about why we are there, how we gave "support" to Iran at one time, Iraq at one time, and put arms in the hands of Bin to fight the Russians for our own interest. How about the brutality that rules Cambodia after we bombed them and allowed the monsters to take over? People that just want to believe we are in Iraq to "fight the terrorists" just don't want to know. Wonder when we "pull out" if we can get some health care for the elderly in our country or schoolbooks for Cleveland kids since we are so "great" at building countries.

We supported the Mujahideen back in the late 1970's (Both Carter and Regan support them) and Iran back in the 1980's..... Iraq is now our ally and I imagine that someday Iran will also be an ally... Remember, Germany, Japan and England have also been enemies of the US

It is not so much about who has been our enemy, but what role we have played in wars that we did not belong in, or bombing places we had no right to, or putting arms in hands that we have no right to, or getting in between Iran and Iraq and being partly responsible for thousands of Kurds being butchered. . . . . . .Iraq was run by a horrible dictator, but they were not our enemy, and what about all the other countries run by horrible dictators?
