The right to not vote.

Stemming from my last post "Sad Day For Justice"

Presidential candidate Barack Obama voted against immunity, while Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton was a no show.

Why is it ok not to show up for any vote? Am I wrong in thinking this should be required? I can not get my head around how anyone can justify not showing up for a vote on anything. For christ's sake this is 2008. Should they not be able to text message yea or nay to vote@senate.gov. (Yes that is not the best way to do it but you get the idea.)

I agree. I see no reason why a member of Congress should have to be physically in the chamber to vote. They could call, text, or log on the internet and do it.

However sad that it is, I think all members of Congress miss some. There should be a way to make it easier given the ever connected world we live in now.

EDIT: I'm sure they all have Blackberries.

I'm with you. There has to be a way to set up a secure voting system where the members of Congress don't have to be in the chamber to cast a vote.
