Should We Give Up Acrimony For Lent?

Post by Gary Rice »

Good evening Observer family,

With the Christian season of Lent upon us, many of our faith traditions call for giving up something, in respect for the deprivations of Jesus in those 40 days in the desert.

While I have certainly enjoyed reading the postings on the Observation Deck, I have also sadly observed more than a little animosity creeping in to some of our postings lately.

In the spirit of penance, whether your faith tradition is Christian or not, perhaps it would be well for us all to reflect on where pride can take us, when we put it ahead of people.

To give up acrimony for Lent would seem to be a noble endeavor to pursue.

At least, if we can appeal to our higher nature for a moment, we might get back on track with more solutions and fewer position papers.

We might not be quite ready for "Kumbayah", but I'm all for giving peace a chance.
