Council Considers Charter Recommendations
Last night the Committee of the Whole met to discuss the recommendations from the Charter Commission. From my own perspective of the discussion, I believe city council is giving serious consideration to putting the CITY MANAGER-COUNCIL recommendation before the voters in the fall. The only decision that was made was that city council will put something in front of the voters in the fall. We also decided how we will proceed in future meetings. Many good and targeted questions were asked about the recommendations and the commission did a fine job of answering them. The only item that was really a point of debate is whether or not there had been enough public discussion about the topic of employing the city manager form of government. So I hope this will be the place where discussion can begin, at least online. I am confident that LakewoodAlive, the Chamber of Commerce, the League of Women Voters and Kiwanis Clubs will also present programs on these topics.
