All Observers are invited to come to Sinagra Park (at Marc's Plaza) on this Thursday, Nov. 30 at 5PM for the ceremonial kick-off of Light Up Lakewood weekend. The St. Edward Trash Talkers will welcome spectators (a la "Stomp"), and a few words of welcome will be made by Mayor George and Jennifer Hooper, Main Street Lakewood, before the new lighting is switched on. At that point, the McKinley Elementary School Choir will entertain all of us. Lakewood Hospital will be serving free hot chocolate and cookies in their atrium immediately following the ceremony. What at wonderful start to the holidays! (Jim - you may want to sell tickets for loge seating at LO!)
Coordinated by Main Street, Light Up Lakewood is a collaborative effort to encourage residents to shop, dine and play in Lakewood. Geiger's, First Federal of Lakewood and Lakewood Hospital purchased the beautiful snowflake swags that hang over Detroit Avenue. LakewoodAlive purchased and coordinated the installation of new lights on the evergreen at Sinagra Park. The City contributed the efforts of numerous public works employees to plan and install the new decorations, and the Sunday Holiday Festival.
Below is a list of some of the events happening around town this weekend. We hope to see you about town this weekend!

Wow, looks like a fun weekend for Lakewood families!
I should mention that the event "To the Max! (and Ruby): A Special Holiday Family Weekend Wonders" will be held at BOTH Main Library and the Madison Branch, and that the Sunday time is at 2:00 p.m. (not 3:00pm as listed).
Thanks to Jennifer Hooper, Mary Anne Crampton and the rest of the Light Up Lakewood team for putting this weekend together!

That was fun. It would have been nice had it snowed not rained, but rain does funny things. All without umbrellas huddled together under the two tents, while all of those smart enough to bring them formed circles around the tents. Rain brings people together, The conversations were filled with holiday spirit and warmth.
Detroit and the new lights look nice. I suggest looking from one end or the other. Nice effect. Or better walk from one end of the lights to the other and shop Lakewood.
Regulars here know I have been tough on Mainstreet. Tthis was nice. Many thanks to Jennifer Hooper, Tony Beno and crew, Mary anne Crampton and LakewoodAlive, Lakewood Hospital, the one and only Melissa Garrett, and everyone that worked on this one. I think when the snow hits it is going to be a great holiday season.
Shop Lakewood!
peace on earth
