La Pita Express - Fine Lebanese in the Wood

Post by Kenneth Warren »

I have been enjoying great Lebanese food at very affordable prices at La Pita Express, which opened at 13615 Detroit. While the owner cautioned me that he is still perfecting his dishes and determining proper materials and suppliers, there is no reason to delay proclaiming La Pita Express is, in my opinion, one of the best new restaurants to open in the Wood.

If you remember the terrific food prepared by Ali Baba on Lorain in Cleveland, you will be delighted to know that his son holds to the same impeachable standards at his new Detroit Avenue shop.

I’ve been working my way down the menu over the past few days:

The falafel sandwich at $3.00 is fine as is beef shawrma sandwich for $3.50.

Fried kebbe is fabulous at $1.25 each.

Hummus is excellent at $3.00. 6 grape leaves for $3.00 can’t be beat.

There’s more to try, including pastries made from scratch.

A small counter is there if you wish to eat inside.

I think La Pita Express comes in with the highest quality at a price point over which nobody on the LO Deck can quibble

Give this place a shot. I guarantee, you won’t be disappointed.

Chris:

I'd say La Pita Express is primarily take-out. There is a counter with four or so stools, providing a minimalist mode for one that wishes to eat and run.

We ate there the other night and the food was outstanding. The platters are a lot of food.

They also make what might be the best french fries in Cleveland.

Lamb shish-ka-bob wrap, and fries for $5.00.

Everything is great. We are there twice a week.

I've gone twice already and it's great! It takes a strong arm to handle those platters! Since the vegetable platter is so big and diverse I combine it with leftovers for a couple of dinners.

I took a comrade to La Pita this afternoon. Nadhal, whose parents are first generation Palestinian immigrants, was employed as a litmus for the quality of La Pita's Arabic cuisine.

By coincidence, we ran into a high school acquaintance of Nadhal, also of middle eastern descent. They chatted about La Pita, comparing it to other mid-eastern restaurants in the area.

They mentioned Nate's, Kan Zamman, Aladdin's and others on the west side. In their eyes and taste buds, nobody comes close to La Pita.

I suggest everyone check this place out. The food is excellent, and the prices are unbelievably low. High quality and low cost.

I just went for the first time.

Great food prepared by a friendly philosopher.

I will be a regular customer.

Don't put off a good thing like I did. Try some of the best food, at the best prices, in Lakewood.

Not only was it the best wrap I have had, my children loved the beef! Since Jim and Bryan sent me there less than two weeks ago, we have been back three or four times. Where else can you get such delicious food in ten minutes and feed a family of five for $20? Our new favorite for sure.

On any given day you can join Bob as he slowly and deliberately tries every single item that Ruth and Gahzi (sp) have to offer. I would estimate that four days out of six, Bob's eating with them. Wonderful food, great service, nice people.

Once again, you have caused us to stretch our culinary exposure. For lunch today we ate here and it was wonderful. Great vegetarian options.
