Do You Have Advice For The Governer Elect? Here's One

Post by Bill Call »

With the election of any new Governor the various special interest groups, campaign advisers, supporters, activists and hangers on have visions of contracts, jobs, appointments, special amendments and other goodies dancing in their heads like so many sugar plums.

They can hardly wait for Christmas, aka, inauguration day.

How should the Governor handle all these expectations?

A friend of mine once worked for a parking lot company in New York City. It was strictly a cash business. About 1,000 cars a day parked in the lot, each paying twenty dollars or so. The financial controls in place weren't very sophisticated; the mangers relied on the unsavory reputations of the parking lot owners to keep things from getting out of hand.

There wasn't much in the way of training and their were no operations manuals. The employee training consisted primarily of a word to the wise, it is the advice I offer to the new governor: Don't steal too much.
