Hydrate, something we all need to do this week and all summer. Dehydration is a strange malady and should be taken with all the seriousness it deserves, along with overheating. Some of the first signs are being thirsty, tired and warm, but then it leads to confusion, cramping, and total exhaustion. Never let it get that far. If you are thirsty, drink some water. For the record after a long conversation with a paramedic pumping me full of electrolytes, I learned that Pepsi is not water, yes I know there is water in it, but… Scotch with ice cubes is not drinking water, yes there is water in the ice cubes and the scotch, but…Coffee and ice tea are not drinking water, yes they are made with water, but they are not water. All of these examples actually speed up dehydration. So while other drinks might seem to be quenching your thirst, in the long run, in serious heat, it is a losing battle. And it is not a daily battle, my doctor figured I was in a dehydrated state for weeks, before the serious side kicked in.
With that said and out of the way, we celebrate our Waste Collection crew, all of them. Thank you for all that you do. Knowing some of you the way I do makes what they do even more amazing. The stories are both crazy and scary!
