Thanks to Jerry, Ruthie, Jim and the other organizers for a spectacular event, now a signature event for Lakewood.
You are golden.
The posters, cars, tee shirts. Getting all the work done. Lugging stuff.
I can't say enough about the your commitments and effects on our city.
Uncle Scratch playing between Chain Link and Manja could not be beat. Bravo!!
Today there was a huge and positive jolt on Madison Avenue, one that should re-awaken many people to the people, culture and built-environment that Lakewood contains.
They were talking about the car culture show and how great all the bands were at the no name cone joint on Hopkins, where a banana boat sunday for $2.75 is another great reason to hang on Madison in summertime.
It's been a great summer filled with fabulous events.
Congratulations on a terrific event.

Ken-
We call the no-name joint Cone Land, but you are reminding me of the very famous no-name in Boston. Fantastic seafood and a definitive Boston landmark. That's how we feel about "Cone Land" and the dollar pints.
We never miss the Car Kulture event and thought this was bigger and better than ever. It's always amazing how many friends we see there.
And for something that really interests me not at all, I always have a great time!
I agree that it's a signature event. May it live with us for many years to come!

I noticed there were a lot more cars (and attendees) this year than last. Definitely seems to grow every year.
Bravo to all who helped!

This year's show truly was the best so far! Jerry, Ruthie, and Jim have got it down pat.
I went twice. Ther first time was to actually spend some time looking at the cars. These cars visually are the same thing as listening to a favorite song from back then. They both bring back instant memories.
And, it's great fun listening to the history provided by the owners.
But I have some observations about the show itself. Basically, it is starting to burst at the seams! Reacting to natural market forces-- The Lakewood Village set up a grill in their parking lot thereby extending westward the boundaries of the show by a couple of blocks.
I went back at 5:00 to hear the band. Returning to my truck parked on Bunts the Kar Show merged with a new crowd coming to see a football game at Lakewood High Stadium. A St. Ed's group had resereved the parking lot of the Firestone store for a band.
Talk about one continuous street party!!!
Next year, it's gotta expand a couple of blocks east.

Jerry, Ruthie, their sons Jerry and Charley, are one of the really good families and neighbors in this city. My life has truly been enriched the day I met them.
I was speaking with one of three national magazine photographers that showed up to cover the event that, "Lakewood is the only city to shut down a major street to host a car event. Some have cruises, but very few are cool enough to let an event like this to happen." All said they will be back and are sure it will be a very high profile event in the future.
I would also like to publicly thank: My wife Deb who makes so much of this possible, Cox Communications a great friend of Lakewood, Madison Square Beverage, The City of Lakewood, City Workers, Police, Council members that took the time to hang out with constituents, Mayor Tom George, Melissa Garrett, Tony Beno, Pat Majeski, Steve Hoffert, Kit Hoffert and family, St. Andrew, all the vendors, and car owners and especially: Observers: Ken Warren, Dan Slife, Brian Simko, Rhonda Loje, David Lay, Bill Davis, John and Jill Carino, Stan Austin, Mike Deneen, DL and DH, Steve Davis, Tom Mulready/Cool cleveland, and all who worked the Observer Tent or stopped by and said hi. All the bands, Eddy and Uncle Scratch, and the business along Madison that allow us to play for the day and rip it up. Now that was a party.
I believe it ended at 60 more cars, over 200. A bunch more people. What made me smile, was the number of people we talked with that were not from Lakewood, and were blown away with the Party In The Streets the city allowed and supported. Another day of Magic In The Wood.
That said, last night as we sat up at Bela Dubby, enjoying a nice cold Brooklyn Beer, we started on 2007. If it works for Macy's, it will work for us. We have some pretty cool ideas, that we always keep track of during the months leading up to the show. Larger would be nice, but wait till you see what we have for Lakewood next year!
Next event Rally of Lakewood. You can't love it, talk about it or bask in the glow from the Koolaid if you do not know the streets. 25 miles all in Lakewood, with 100% of all money collected going to the Family Room. You can do it in a car, motorcycle or bike.
To quote Uncle Scratch, "The Devil has left the area and headed west. We are now in a Devil Free Zone."
Lakewood - all of you, Thank You.

Having lived in Lakewood almost all of my life, I had never lived south of Franklin until recently. Players was about the only place I'd spent any time enjoying. So places like "Cone Land" were part of a vast unknown, ripe for discovery. They used to have a sign with a big picture of an ice cream cone, which I believe is no longer there.
Part of the reason I like the Kar Kulture show is a reason to slowly amble down Madison Avenue, ogle cars and passersby, look for (and find) friends, and check out the storefronts. Some of the stores are reaching out to a demographic which I do not fit, but it's fun to go in and walk around to see what kinds of cool things thay have. I wish more stores had been open.
We saw the St. Ed's party that Stan mentioned and thought it was a great day for feeling a Madison Ave. block party vibe.
These festivals, or shows or block parties - whatever we wish to call them, are really wonderful Lakewood events. And we look forward to the Sept. 9th Community Festival as well.
But I have to quit talking about things other than cars. It's making a certain car guy crazy.

I have to check with Brad Babcock the Rally Master but I think two weeks. There will only be room for about 100 vehicles, but I promise it will be it will be the small part of an afternoon, that will help you understand Lakewood than ever before. Also the Family Room is a tremendous assest and can always use money.

Well Lakewood, you didn't disappoint me this year. Incredible turnout from the residence to support this ever growing show. I was overwhelmed by the support from everyone, especially the car owners. There was a time frame were I did not know were I would park anymore cars. This is a good problem to have, and will help the cause for expanding the show next year.
I would like to thank everyone from the city that supported and helped with the event. Mayor Thomas George for his support and Mayors Choice award pick. The citizens of Lakewood for attending. The business owners on Madison for their support. The bands. All of the sponsors, especially The Lakewood Observer, Cox Communication, Jak Prints, and George Kubas. Everyone who helped run the show on Saturday.
I especially want to thank Jim O'Brien for his dedication and help, I don't know how I'd do this without you and your great staff.
Last but certainly not least my lovely wife, Ruth. Without her the event would truly would not run. She holds it all together as I run around like a mad man.
As Jim mentioned above, we've already thrown some ideas out on how to make the show bigger and better next hear.
Thanks again Lakewood!!!!

Regarding the car rally, if there is to be a "get together" at the end of it, Karen and I would like to volunteer our musical services for it. We'll do it in any style the Wood likes, but I think we know what the Wood likes in general already. Jim, or whoever is putting the details together...you'r welcome to PM me and we can talk more about it.
