Mayor Meghan George in one of the burn rooms at the Tri-C Safety Training Complex, with Fire Marshall Fairbanks, and Asst Chief Sambula , as Ward One Councilman Kyle Baker looks on. Lakewood Fire Department spent the day training, and Mayor George, Councilman Baker, and the Observer stopped by to show support.

Tuesday October 3rd, Lakewood Fire Department headed to the Tr-C Safety Training Facility located in Parma, Ohio. The facility adjacent to the campus provides space for police and fire to train for various scenarios. On this day the Lakewood Fire Department would be doing smoke and fire training in the burn building. Also on this day they invited Mayor Meghan George and Council members to join them. Ward One Councilman Kyle Baker took them up on their offer

First a meeting explaining what would be going on. 4 teams entering the building 3 times each.

Mayor George was to suit up, and enter the burning building with the fire fighters. I figured it would be a quick pop in the door and out again. With her crew headed by Fire Marshall Fairbanks and Asst Chief Sambula she disappeared in a smokey door, and emerged almost 30 minutes later, at the other end of the building that had been set on fire.

Minutes later, after the building was set on fire, she enters the building and disappears in the smoke.

30 minutes later, laughing and relaxing with her crew.

One of the reasons Lakewood Fire Department is so good, is they are constantly training. They train to get new recruits up to speed, and into their system of fighting fires. They also are getting everyone comfortable being in a fire zone filled with smoke and flames. Like many things the more time you do it, the better you get. The Trip-C Safety Facility allows this to happen again and again, as the building is configured and can be reconfigured to give the fire fighters challenges and new scenarios.

Thank you to the Lakewood Fire Department for all you do, and thank you to Mayor George, and Councilman Baker for letting me tag along.
