Yesterday, Lakewood City Schools updated their reopening plan yet again, offering for the first time to allow families who want their children to remain home a chance to do so with Lakewood courses and teachers. The District started school with everyone remote so this will allow students who don't go into the buildings to have a continuous educational experience, rather than switch to an eLearning option which was their only choice before.
Parents have been asked to fill out a form indicating their preference: staying with remote LCS learning online, having their children go back into the buildings to continue with their classes, switching from eLearning to remote learning, or switching from remote learning to eLearning.
Parents who were torn (and in fact several were in tears at Monday night's school board meeting) about having to trade their children's health for a Lakewood education, because this was only offered if their children agreed to go back into the buildings, are breathing a huge sigh of relief today.
The District will have accurate numbers soon conveying how many are in each group which will allow them to design this new plan to fit the exact needs of the student population.
This is good news for the entire populating of Lakewood because it decreases community spread in that it lessens the amount of exposure in the the buildings by limiting the numbers to only those who want to be there.
Thank you to Dr. Barnes, his administration and the Board of Education for listening and accommodating the needs of our Lakewood families.
