One of the reasons Lakewood Fire Department is so good is that they constantly train. We have covered them training for ice rescues, water rescues, building rescues, accident rescues, hostage rescues, chemical dump rescues. What I have never mentioned is that all of this happens while they are working. Today it really came home as I stopped by the Cliff Rescue Training, and the calls came flying in.

On top of Stinchcomb, Lakewood Fire Department had set gear to training and retrain firefighters in cliff rescues.

Lakewood is bordered on two sides by step cliffs and water. This adds more training and more kinds of calls they could be called on.

Practicing on the basket. This can be pulled up a cliff with a person strapped in. Or lowered down the cliff. It can also be picked up by a helicopter if needed.

Strapped in, and ready to get out!

After getting him into a harness, the safety rope is released, and he is pulled back up the cliff.

It is always a pleasure to watch the fine people work and train. We are very lucky indeed!
