On top of Stinchcomb, Lakewood Fire Department had set gear to training and retrain firefighters in cliff rescues.
Lakewood is bordered on two sides by step cliffs and water. This adds more training and more kinds of calls they could be called on.

Practicing on the basket. This can be pulled up a cliff with a person strapped in. Or lowered down the cliff. It can also be picked up by a helicopter if needed.

Strapped in, and ready to get out!

Moving on to walking a person up the cliff.

A volunteer victim, played by a full time firefighter waits to get rescued.

Another at the top of the cliff checks to makes sure everything can handle the weight.

Heads down the cliff to save the victim.

After getting him into a harness, the safety rope is released, and he is pulled back up the cliff.

Which was steeper than it appeared in the photos.

It is always a pleasure to watch the fine people work and train. We are very lucky indeed!
