Hmmm ... no mention of requiring possession of a valid driver license!

Assuming this is a sarcastic dig at Ed Fitzgerald but, in case not, why would a valid diver license be a requirement for becoming a member of the Council Seat?

I take Mr. Grossetti's comments to use a "Drivers License" to be a metaphor for the basic requirements for office as presented to the public at large.

I would think that without using a City owned vehicle, and or operating equipment that needs one there would be no reason to need one.
Especially in a walkable city. In theory.

Re: Lakewood City Council Seeks Applicants for Vacant At-Large Council Seat
Ah, the Democrat's idea of democracy. In reality, the only qualification you need for a seat, a city, township, county, state, or federal elected office is being a citizen and residency. Is that too difficult for the ignorant city Democrats that posted this tripe to understand? The audacity of putting an elected position up like it’s a job application for propaganda reasons is unfathomable.
Your resume should state that you don’t believe in facts, facts are evil, and you believe in socialism that you will spend the lower-middle-class taxes to support the elderly upper class and privileged students. You must pledge that you will follow the instructions of the City’s administration to benefit the city employees and politicians who will benefit financially. You are to disregard the Lakewood citizen's best interests of Lakewood and debt them for control. If you want to be elected, lie because if you don't lie, you will never be elected. Had you actually loved Lakewood, you would have voted Republican and stopped its decline and tax rape of property owners.
It should be noted that ignorant Democrats think that money will improve soloistic achievements. The school board believes that that Lakewood schools will improve with new buildings in a climate of comfort rather than the effort of teaching. Consequently, the removal of neighborhood schools will mandate further distances children have to commute, increasing the dangers to the children. Let's not forget higher wages for the teaching profession in it for benefits and retirement. Odd, why would all the intelligent upper-middle-class families send their children to private schools to get an education instead of a liberal indoctrination.
Next, there will be criticism and assumption that I’m not independent. I’m a Republican. That’s incorrect, although I bought a “Make America Great Again” I’m a conservative independent. God, the requests following my purchase for donations would astound you. I refused them. Hell, the Democrat's won’t even support the DNC that is going broke. Why, because Perez is a racist bigot that Democrats love his foul mouth but won’t donate. Hillary even bought the DNC debt to screw Sanders in her failed attempted to promote Trump’s Russian collusion.
The minority Republicans in Lakewood only observe the ridicule of Democrats, knowing that any attempt to debate will only result in slander of racism and bigotry. I'm independent I don't care about your feelings or the fact you are inept and inert.

I agree, nothing funnier than Democrats trying to work under Republican written rules, that were meant to keep Rs in power in Lakewood decades ago.

Jim, I agree, it must have been the same closet Republicans who sold out the healthcare of the Lakewood residents that also approved the Third-Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood on November 7, 2017.
The Charter does not state that the council must seek "qualified" applicants from the public to fill a vacancy, it's the same method that is used by the vast majority of government bodies. I would say this method of filling a vacancy was written by Democrats well before 1860 when Abraham Lincoln and Republican Party came into power. The Charter states:
) Vacancy. Vacancies in council shall be filled by appointment made by
the remaining councilmembers. In the event council does not appoint a
successor within 60 days of the occurrence of a vacancy, the mayor may fill
the vacancy. If the vacancy occurs more than two years and 120 days
before the municipal primary election for the next term of that office, the
appointee shall serve only until his or her successor is elected and
qualified at the next regular municipal election. If the vacancy occurs
afterward, the appointee shall serve until the end of the unexpired term of
the former councilmember. Any vacancy that results from a recall election
shall be filled in the manner provided by Article Nine.
We can be assured that the council's request for "qualified" applicants to fill the vacancy is one of the following:
1. The Council didn't think Mayor-Elect George was going to win and dismissed the fact that there would be a vacancy
2. The Council members don't know anyone "qualified" to nominate
3. The Council is so fractured that none of the other members would vote for another member’s nominee
4. The Council has already selected a person to fill the vacancy, see 5
5. The Council public request for a "qualified" person to fill the council vacancy is just another of their ruse to cover the backroom decision of who will be appointed.

No you missed the point. The City of Lakewood is built on a foundation of Republican running every inch of it for decades. Although oddly enough, Anthony Sinagra the most successful mayor in terms of elections, had been a Democrat and changed to Republican to get elected. In the old days of Lakewood only Republicans could get elected. So everything was Republican run. Now I wish I could blindly hate like some, well no I do not, but, some of the things they did were OK. Streets clean and safe, of course that person ran afoul of the law, before running afoul of the law again, and again.
This Democrat thing you speak of is more than a handful of Republicans, hell neo-cons masquerading as Ds to keep their kabuki charade going.
FWIW Council has thrown some more stringent qualifications into the mix since that charter decree. Crazy things like background checks, financial dealings etc. have the be shared with council.
Richard Lakewood is like Bizarro World in Superman comics, everything is flipped from what a normal person would think. Which also is one of the reasons, thing never work out like they say.
