Area Band Concert Next Week With A Lakewood Connection

Good friends in Lakewood Land:

My friend and fellow LHS graduate Paul Lawrence has provided the following information for all music lovers. Paul is the director for the Hillcrest Band:

The Hillcrest Concert Band will be presenting a SPRING CONCERT next Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 7:30PM in the Regina Auditorium at Notre Dame College, 1857 South Green Road, South Euclid.

Lakewoodites will be interested in the first pair of marches: "American's We" and "NC-4". The trio (middle part) of "American's We" is the school song for Brush High School; the trio (middle part) of "NC-4" is the school song for Lakewood High School!

The NC-4 was originally the name of the American flying boat aircraft that first flew across the Atlantic Ocean shortly after WWI in 1919, exactly one hundred years ago this month. A band march was written to honor its flight by F.E.Bigelow that same year. The trio for that march was later selected as the melody for Lakewood's song.
