Tall Tales From Council President O'Leary

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Well the FitzGerlad, Summers, Buddish, O'Leary machine has reached into its deep pockets of out of the city $$$$$ to pump out the first Sam O'Leary for Mayor piece.

Time to reflect on how Sal O'Leary, LHS Democratic Club member, rose so quickly to power. The other council people refused to trust Councilman Tom Bullock with the gavel. It came down to a split, and the only person they could find less power mad than Tom Bullock was Sam O'Leary. OK lets be honest, that council is not really known for deep thinking.

So how did Councilman Sam O'Leary help Lakewood Schools? Pushing for the purchase of McKinley from Lakewood Schools for $1? Perhaps he helped when he pressured them to sell the School Board Building under value? Perhaps he helped as he worked secretly, to get rid of two of Lakewood largest employers a,d sell off $258 million in assets for a loss? Or maybe it is when the kids get out of school, they can stop by the new multi-use strip mall Lakewood-One, that was built with Sam's mentor and some of his donors?

Seniors? Helped by adding $1,200 to each hospital visit? No bringing back the Circulator?

No the sad part is that Sam O'Leary democrat could have started this entire election cycle off with a breath of fresh air, a walk into the sunlight, create a true dialogue based on truth, honesty and accountability. Instead he wastes dollars pushing tall tales.

Any elected official in office during the hospital debacle - 2010 - 2015, must never be allowed to hold office in Lakewood again. The have squandered our votes on lies and bad deals. Any elected official after 2015 that is not looking for the truth, should be viewed with suspicion.

This is the state of where we are in Lakewood.

The County Machine knows that O'Leary is a very weak candidate.....that is why they have started the campaign already.
It's 8 months to election day, but Budish and Team Summers are already tossing money around.
In my 28 years of Lakewood politics, I have never seen a local campaign mailing come out so early....even the highly contested 2003 and 2015 races.

I have heard that now Council President Sam O'Leary is having second thoughts on the Hospital Debacle he helped to cause, and the massive division that it also caused in our community.

Lakewood, we cannot afford this kind of thought process. At every inch of the way, residents, lawyers, professionals and others beg the City of Lakewood to double check their numbers. In every inch of the process, the problems and the lies were repeatedly pointed out by more than one source. Instead of pausing and THINKING, he would double down, and further the lie to the residents. When he had a chance to simply say, let's get another source, he chose again and again to go with the people lying, and angling for themselves.

When he had a chance to say, Hold On, he doubled down with criminals, and thugs, working to cover up facts, intimidate residents, and disrupt open and free conversations all over town.

I wish I could laugh, we cannot afford to let this crew another hour in office.

Doubling-Down Despite Their Own Experts

Let me take a moment to emphasize that they doubled-down by also ignoring:

1. Healthcare planners at the Metro Health System,

2. The Lakewood Hospital Association private healthcare consultant (Subsidium),

3. The City of Lakewood's private healthcare consultant (Huron Consulting),

4. The City of Lakewood's major outside law firm (Thompson Hine), and

5. Healthcare planners at Surgical Development Partners.

The path that they followed was the one set by the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2010-2012 to demolish Lakewood Hospital and move the hospital programs and assets elsewhere.

Lakewood City Council proceeded down a path of secret or secretive consultations in 2014 and 2015 that abrogated their obligations under Ohio's open meetings laws.

Drive by Belle and Detroit and witness this civic disaster.
