This June 21, Go To The Solistice Steps And..

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Protest the inability by our City Government to tell the truth. Even about the Solstice Steps!

Protest City Hall's stance that residents do not deserve the documents they own, or the accountability they deserve.

Protest our Law Director, Finance Director and City counsel making false statements to the courts!

Protest City Hall's stance that their personal friends deserve to reap the rewards.

Then get ready for the big parade July 4th, where we will invite everyone to let FREEDOM RING!

City Hall is out of control and has lost their moral compass, only together can we heal this city.

Over the past 24 months I have had a crash course in demonstrations, and other means of protest and resistance.

I could muse on it all at length, but right now I just want to make one point of which I'm very confident:

Effective protests don't just happen. One can debate whether and when protest is effective, at all, but whatever effect it can achieve depends on organization. Even some of this year's legendarily out-of-nowhere protests like the Cleveland Women's March involved a lot more than one online post "going viral," and people just showing up.

I do believe that protest can be useful, in the right circumstances, as one part of a larger strategy. But both the protest itself and the larger strategy require organizing effort. I also think that historically, Debbie Downer lectures like this one have placed too much emphasis on the tedium and thanklessness of such effort; it can also be fun and rewarding too. But either way, effective protest takes work.

It appears that our infamous Law Director, Kevin Butler, does not belong to any of the Bar Associations, according to my searches.

Smart move on his part. However, not smart enough. You can still file complaints in reference to him at the Supreme Court of Ohio.

I have an idea I've been mulling for some time.

In the past when our political leadership has been found lacking, many chose to surrender the flag and other patriotic gear to the oppressors.

Well, at this time - nationally and locally - the people who are standing for basic American rights are the true patriotic heroes.

So this season, fly your American flags in defiance of the traitorous Trump and the repressive local regime and in support of those who support core American values. And if you don't have one, you still have time to get one before Memorial Day.
