Time for a Sunshine Pledge?
1. Given the deceptive practices of city hall and the loss of Lakewood's largest employer, is it time for candidates running for city council to sign a "Sunshine Pledge"?
Sunshine Pledge
The "Sunshine Pledge" asks for accountability, transparency and calls for a third party independent investigation of all deals that pertain to Lakewood Hospital.
2. Reviewing the current landscape of healthcare spending, one might ask how any council member was duped into believing the false narrative that "healthcare is changing". Especially given the fact that healthcare spending accounts for nearly 20% of GDP. In fact, last weeks Sunday NY Times highlighted Cleveland and Akron in a front page article regarding healthcare spending:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/06/busi ... .html?_r=0
Here are some highlights from the article:
"While manufacturing employment has fallen nearly 40 percent in northeastern Ohio since 2000, the number of health care jobs in the region has jumped more than 30 percent over the same period. In Akron, the onetime rubber capital of the world, only one of the city’s 10 largest employers still makes tires. Three are hospitals."
A. What was the incentive for city hall to allow for the closure of the regions hottest economic growth engine?
B. Was the closing of Lakewood Hospital a money laundering scheme?
A third party investigation is needed.

Re: Time for a Sunshine Pledge?
Why do we want "our representatives" to take any kind of limited Sunshine pledge.
Let's expand our horizons and look for elected officials to take a Sunshine pledge that covers every aspect and boy of our government.

This is the only kind of pledge you'll get from this City Hall.
They have repeatedly and consistently demonstrated their commitment to secrecy and backroom dealing.
If you want change, you need to change the people in office.
Unfortunately it is likely too late to save the city.

Thanks for posting this in a new thread.
I generally have a problem with politicians taking pledges, promising to uphold LAWS once they are elected.
This is why they are elected.
Lakewood City Hall is OUT OF CONTROL.
Last week I spoke with a Council Member, that had NO IDEA, there was a problem with getting public records. "Really, Kevin told me it was over."
I pointed out that besides the lawsuit, for public records that is just about to go to Ohio Supreme Court to get what all lower courts have deemed PUBLIC RECORDS. They seemed confused, almost addled.
I pointed out that there are more than the Essi Lawsuit, and they pointed out they "do not oversee the law department"
I asked, "Don;t you oversee spending?" They answered "Yes." "Well then you realized they have spent over $250,000 fighting the residents."
Sat blanked face.
Let me assure you the paperwork that has not been turned over is because it will point out that what we said was true, and they were doing even worse. Every day a new fact leaked out that City Hall called a lie, and it was shown here to be the truth. What they are hiding would send them to jail, so spending our money on keeping their greedy asses out of jail, a no brainer for them. The people that boosted the hospital from the residents, to fund THEIR private groups, is now making us pay their legal fees to keep public records from us.
Back to the discussion with the Council Person, that had never lied to me, well until then. It is apparent City Council is so lawyered up by City Hall that they no longer represent the residents in ANY WAY and have just because COVER FOR THE MAYOR and his CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE.
Screw the pledge, that is part of the job they begged for. BRING IN THE INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION.
The only way the City heals from this nightmare is with truth, and sunshine, the great disinfectant.

Re: Time for a Sunshine Pledge?
I notice Councilperson Anderson dropped "yours in service" from his latest post. Council seems to have a great deal of confidence in Kevin Butler, rather than seeing a need that his office might need to be investigated. Taking the word, without question, of the statutory agent of an LLC that produced a fake newspaper designed to mislead members of the community seems, to me, downright stupid.Jim O'Bryan wrote:
