They Are Back! I Love This Area

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Excuse the images, hand held during the storm.

After a two year's absence the Great Horned Owls have returned to the area.

Marguerite

I do not sell prints. I will give you a print of your choice, 11x17 or 8x10 on archival paper, signed, if...

... you make a donation of $125 or more to a charity of your choice. My favs are education, woman's shelters, Lakewood Public Library, Lakewood Historical Society, LakewoodAlive... Feel free to give more.

This is the only way people have gotten my images from the past 10 years.

Send me a copy of the canceled check, with personal information marked out, and the photo you would like.

Amazing pictures Jim. I went for a run this morning in the metropark and wondered what all the excitement was with all the cameras. One gentleman let me use his binoculars to see the mother owl with her owlets. I could only see the protective mother and it was breathtaking. They said the father owl was around but I never saw him. I wished I had a camera! Thanks for posting.

Over the years, it's become more and more obvious to me that this "north coast" we live on is a hot bed for birds and bird watching. The variety that either lives here or flies through once a year is truly astounding.

Beautiful photos, Jim! :D

Maybe it's just me, but I am continually astonished at the emotional attention and affection that the pubic has for raptors, owls, hawks, and other hunter/killer animals.

How cute and affectionate they are with their young.

I know, balance of natural ecosystems, and all of that...

...but when I was a kid, we loved baby bunnies, pet mice, parakeets, goldfish, and cuddly little yellow chicks... :D

(granted even then, after the holiday fun wore off, those animals' fates were oftentimes not too pretty)

...but nowadays, people apparently prefer to be attracted to bloodthirsty, flesh-eating animals.

Hmmm....

Wonder what that says about our society?

Glad that (as a general rule) you can't get those kind of animals in pet shops.

Back to the banjo... :D

Are you going to tell me this isn't adorable?

But I love other birds too...

But I have to admit there is something fascinating about animals at the top of their food chain.

Great photos again, Jim! :D

Looks as if the bear may have gotten a little too close a some baby eaglet.

Can't BEAR to watch that one.

It it kept up, the bear would probably end up as bald as the eagle!

Yes I know, bald eagles aren't really bald.

Back to the banjo! :D

Yogi the bear probably deserved it, what he did in the past cartoon was really awful. Ask booboo.
