Root Café Turns Seven

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

A little over 8 years ago, Julie Hutchison told me she wanted to take a legendary Lakewood hangout "Phoenix Coffee" in a new direction. Her dream was to bring something original, something organic in every way to her city, Lakewood, Ohio. With the help of her partner Bobby, and their friends, she slowly extracted her dream of what was right into the Root Café.

My original story "Organically Grown With Communal Love, the Root Café" still describes it.

The Root Café has become the heart and soul of Lakewood, Meeting place of choice, much like out of towners have to stop at Melt. But the Root has become a place where kids come with their parents, start washing dishes, serving coffee, going into the kitchen, and realizing, damn this is tough, and heading out into the world.

Julie, Bobby, Staff and family. Thank you
