LGBT Non-Discrimination Law Passes

Post by Michael Deneen »

Per Council Member Dan O'Malley on Twitter, the LGBT Non Discrimination Law passed City Council this evening 7-0.
O' Malley says it is among the most inclusive of its kind in Ohio.
I expect there will be more on this story in a print edition.....or perhaps Mr. O' Malley can tell us more about it on this thread. (Not now, the meeting is still going on.)

There are four main areas where discrimination is prohibited: public accommodation, employment, housing, and education opportunities. This ordinance adds sexual orientation and gender identity/expression to all of them. It also creates a 3-member Human Rights Commission to hear/resolve discrimination complaints.

Thanks to all who worked on this and especially our many residents who spoke out in support at last night's meeting.

Amy - I suppose implementation is the next step and I'm sure the process for applying will be publicized. I'll be glad to post the details here at that time.

Amy,

While I think you would be a great candidate, I highly doubt you would get selected. Look who is on some of these other commissions/boards/task forces. If you have been following things in this city over the past few years and during Summers' reign, you will recognize lots of the names:

Planning Commission:
- Kyle Baker
- Hannah Belsito
- Glenn Coyne (I think he was on the Acvtive Living Task Force)
- William Gaydos
- Louis McMahon
- Mark Papke (city engineer)
- Patrick Metzger (ward 1 council candidate & possible plant so nobody not affiliated with City Hall would run against Anderson)

A lot of these members voted to put a bar in across from Harrison Elementary. Gee, I wonder why!

Heritage Advisory Board:

- Patrick Ketter
- Steve Jouriles
- Frank Scalish (probable mayor friend, also owns Scalish Construction)
- Hillarty Schickler (ex-LakewoodAlive employee)
- Richard Sicha (works for Cuyahoga County Planning Commission)
- Jeffrey Weber

Civil Service Commission:
- Joe Gibbons
- Ken Haber

I really don't smell any cronyism with the Civil Service Commission one, do you?
