LHS "Celebration of History" Event: Civil War

Post by Michael Deneen »

LHS History Teacher Chuck Greanoff (aka "Dr.G") and his students from the LHS AP History classes hosted this event at Lakewood Woman's Club Pavilion on March 8.

The event featured music and food from the Civil War era, as well as numerous exhibits about various aspects of the war.
Students also read actual letters that were sent either to or from Rockport (Lakewood's name at the time) during the conflict.

Music was performed by:

East Rockport Trio: Clara McGuan, Mia Boland, Marissa Campbell
East Rockport Quintet: Angelica Berger, Erin Black, Lynette Camerlin, Margaret McIlwee, Declan Rohrs
The duo of Safe Jassani and Violet Jouriles

Guests were greeted at the door in authentic 1860s fashion. Donald Trump isn't the first politician to have a signature hat.

Civil War foods were served, including Johnny Cakes, Goober Peas, and Sausage and Apples. Dig in!

There was an overflow crowd at the Pavilion.

Safe Jassani and Violet Jouriles performed an amazing version of "Ashkan Farewell", the song made famous by Ken Burns' Civil War documentary
