As a resident, living on Madison Ave, near the Richard Hillard House apartments, I do my best to keep my sidewalks clear of snow and ice. I try to clear it before too much foot traffic packs it down, which makes it a whole lot more difficult. The problem is the city snow plow trucks, they drive by so fast, they throw the ice & slush over my sidewalks, and after it re-freezes, it is impossible to clear the big chunks of packed ice & snow. It's so heavy, so deep, so hard, I can't do it without an ice pick, and hours of exhausting labor, putting myself at risk of a heart attack. I protest and calling for change.
I understand it is a punishable offence if I pile the snow onto the street or my neighbors property. Why doesn't that same law apply to the city snow plows? Removing their remnants is 100% worse than any snow fall. The next time it happens, I will take pictures and head to city hall to file a complaint. I should not be responsible for clearing a hazard that nature did not create, but that the city created.
