Effect of Issue 3 on Mayor/64?

Post by Matthew Lee »

Nobody will ever know for certain, but I would be very interested to see what effect (if any) issue 3 will have on the Mayoral contest and Issue 64.

This morning, the polling location I went to was more crowded than I have ever seen before, even during the previous two presidential elections. Talking to the polling volunteers (a big Thank You for all they do), the volunteers said they were staffed for a big turnout because of issue 3, mayor and 64. I wonder how many of the young voters who were there for issue 3 either had not idea about the drama behind the mayor/64 and either just randomly voted or skipped it. And what effect the random voting would have on the total.

We'll never know for certain, but definitely would love to see any kind of numbers about voting patterns for those three items on the ballot.

Interesting point, especially since the younger voters are said to care little about the hospital issue.

The least likely scenario is that 64 passes AND Skindell loses. You got to assume every vote for Skindell is a vote for 64. Same goes for Summers and a NO vote on 64. I wouldn't assume that the voters that turn out because issue 3 are entirely disconnected from the Mayor/64 votes. If you're a younger voter in Lakewood, then you have likely heard of and have an opinion on the Mayor/64 votes.

I wonder if the basketball issue influences their vote.
