Ohio City Near West to Publish New Community Newspaper
Ohio City Argus to Focus on Neighborhood’s Assets and Attractions

CLEVELAND—Ohio City Near West Development Corporation (OCNW) announces the launch of the Ohio City Argus, a new community newspaper covering the vibrant, historic Cleveland neighborhood.

“Ohio City is truly one of the premier neighborhoods in Cleveland,â€￾ said Bernie Thiel, executive editor of the paper. “It’s a unique, dynamic community with much to offer. We felt the time was right for a publication that communicates all the positive things happening here, and that can help us attract more visitors, new residents and businesses, and increased investment to the neighborhood.â€￾

Initially scheduled to publish quarterly, the paper’s feature-driven coverage will highlight the most interesting aspects of Ohio City—from neighborhood businesses and residents to new residential and commercial developments to community initiatives. The paper—which resurrects the name of Ohio City’s first newspaper launched on May 26, 1836—will be produced, managed and largely written by volunteers with extensive backgrounds in journalism, marketing and business writing.

Relying primarily on advertising support for revenue, the Ohio City Argus will be available at no charge at businesses throughout the Ohio City area as well as by paid subscription. All proceeds from the publication will benefit OCNW.

Each issue of the Ohio City Argus will include the following departments:

• Resident Spotlight, which introduces readers to one of the many interesting people who call Ohio City home

• Business Focus, which highlights an establishment that contributes to the rich fabric of neighborhood life

• Market Feature, which showcases a particular vendor at the historic West Side Market, an Ohio City institution since 1912

• Events and Activities, which will include an in-depth feature on one of the events for which Ohio City has come to be known, including the annual Evening in Ohio City, Ohio City Home Tour, Open Air in Market Square, Ohio City Run & Crawl and Ohio City Blues Fest.

• OCNW Corner, which provides the latest news from Ohio City’s community
development corporation

• Historical Artifacts, which discusses a particular facet of Ohio City’s rich history

“The Ohio City Argus is an exciting new initiative for our organization and community,â€￾ said Nate Coffman, executive director of OCNW. “Residents and visitors alike will enjoy learning about all the things that make Ohio City unique and compelling. And businesses serving the Ohio City neighborhood will find the publication to be a cost-effective way to reach those living, working in and visiting the neighborhood.â€￾

In addition to the print edition, a digital version of the Ohio City Argus will be available at http://www.ohiocityargus.com, which will be linked to and complement the existing official neighborhood website, www.ohiocity.com. Information on OCNW can be found at www.ocnw.org. The Ohio City Argus is affiliated with the Observer network of community owned papers, which publishes the Lakewood Observer, Heights Observer, Westlake/Bay Observer and others.
