WCPN should do a show on the Lakewood Observer and community journalism, Professor Gup should do some research in Lakewood.
Because the show was about the dying idiot metro, it wasn't disposed to really peer deeply at the Observer model. I thought Gup didn't get the resource question right, and, having raised the situation of community journalism, nobody pursued what its model can teach the old school.

Thanks for the kind words, and yes Mr. Gup should do a little more homework and dig deeper. He might be surprised how deep we can go and dig. the difference is we do not need the splashy headlines.
You were part of one of the biggest criminal stories in Cleveland Phil Distasio, it was the "big media" that never dug deeper, and glossed over the "facts."
We have broken many, many stories and many more never had to see the light of day, as those entities took immediate action to correct the problems uncovered.
Right now we are working on two stories with much digging, background, legal work, etc. They will break early next year. the fact is that the PD and Sun will never see these stories because they are feeding the problem and part of the story. They might even re-write the talk of civic journalism.
Thanks again.
