Refugees

Post by Justine Cooper »

I remember reading the PD article on the refugees here in Lakewood. Does anyone have a direct number to donate items they might need? And if anyone has knowledge, any specifics they might need?

I would contact Dottie Buckon at 521.7580

also

Lakewood Christian Services is in need of non-food items.

Also a search for refugees should bring up the threads from a year ago. Lutheran Services for Hidden Village help. and Catholic Charities for the Cambodians and Burmese.

Stacy Dever is in charge of Refugee Services for Catholic Charities. She places families and helps with their transition. I would call her. She is in the book and I am sure you could reach her at the main Catholic Charities number.

Thank you. I think it would be very helpful to have the agencies post here and do a blurb in the Lo about specific needs families have. I think when people read it directly it helps to clean out the closets and give it directly to people in need. I wonder if these agencies work with some of the consignment shops that donate to charity any items that don't sell? There are a lot of nice items that are donated that could go right here in Lakewood. .
