FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Second Annual Jerry Gruss Tribute Baseball Game will take place Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM at the Lakewood High School Stadium. The event will consist of an exhibition baseball game with current and former Lakewood High School baseball players, and community members. Participation is open to all ages fourteen and older. The cost for participants is $7.00. Spectators will be admitted free of charge. All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and spectators will have the opportunity to purchase t-shirts while supplies last. Pre-registration is suggested at the Lakewood Recreation Department, 1456 Warren Rd. Lakewood, OH 44107, (216) 529-4081, or online at www.lakewoodrecreation.com.
Proceeds from the Second Annual Jerry Gruss Tribute Game will benefit the Jerry Gruss Scholarship Fund for Excellence in Athletics and Academics at Lakewood High School, and the American Cancer Society. The inaugural Jerry Gruss Tribute Baseball Game was created to show community support for Coach Gruss and his family during his battle with cancer in 2007.
The inaugural event, attended by Coach Gruss, was held in August 2007. Shortly after the event, Coach Gruss lost his battle with cancer and passed away. The inaugural event raised $2,300 for Lakewood High School Athletics, and contributed to a scoreboard at Lakewood High School Stadium bearing the name of Coach Jerry Gruss.

I don't know how to upload files on here, but I have a PDF Flyer for anyone that's interested in signing up or spreading the word. The flyer also includes a sheet for gathering sponsors and donors (per inning pledges). PM me if you are interested.
The proceeds will go to the LHS Alumni Foundation and the American Cancer Society. Along with the game, there will be a raffle for great items. Last year, Lakewood Hardware donated tools, the Cleveland Indians donated autographed items, and there were pairs of Cleveland Browns tickets being auctioned off as well, along with dance lessons from Silhouette Dance Studio, amongst other smaller items.
The event coordinator is Eric Converse, who is a sophomore at Ohio University. He graduated with me and the rest of the class of 2007, and worked very hard to make this an annual event. His mother is the owner of Silhouette Dance studio here in Lakewood. They are a proud Lakewood family.
I hope to see some folks from the Community out there supporting a great cause. Many people lose loved ones to cancer, so this is a great way to contribute to that cause as well as giving a future Lakewood High School graduate a scholarship to further his or her education.
I'll be there and I hope to see you all there as well!
