Kirtland House Condos on Warren Road Catch Fire

Post by Bill Grulich »

This Sunday, May 18, 2008, all Lakewood Fire Companies were called out at approximately 10:00 P.M. to the Kirtland House Condos at 1495 Warren Road. Flames were shooting 15 feet from the apartment directly above the entrance. The police and fire departments immediately evacuated people from the second and third floors. The rest of the residents were told to remain in their condos.

The Fairview Park rescue squad was called for mutual aid. Several people were taken to Lakewood Hospital for smoke inhalation and some residents were treated on the scene. The Kirtland House Condos have many tenants who are elderly.

Presently, firefighters are searching all of the units.

wow, it's still going on... I'm listening to it now... Looks like is finished for now but the fire marshal still has to decide if the residents can stay...

One of our Lakewood firefighters has been taken to the hospital and there has been another call for mutual aid.

At 12:05 A.M. Lakewood Fire Engine 3 was broken down in the middle of Warren Road.

The Red Cross was called and presumably is working with the residents who were displaced.

When we were at the scene of the fire, we saw some people with a camera. Displaying my usual social graces, I went chasing across the parking lot, calling, "Hey - guy with the camera!".

Bill and I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Nugent and his daughter, Amanda.

Amanda Nugent took the photos that have been posted here: http://lakewoodobserver.com/photoblogs/ ... house-fire
