I don't know, it sounds like they had to break through some barriers that down the road could make things a lot easier and more efficient for Lakewood and other communities to do something similar. Maybe it's good we didn't do it first - as long as we do it eventually...

My first dealings with Councilman Ed FitzGerald was at a WiFi community meeting three years ago. Ed along with Mary Louise Madigan were pushing for it back in 2005 and the Observer covered it.

I walked out of that meeting very frustrated, as it seemed like the city would take forever. I set out a plan with COX, to build WiFi Corridors down Detroit and Madison.

Yesterday we finally came to an agreement with how it would be done, and now are looking for COX to sweeten the deal just a little better. Hopefully next week though I was hoping for today. It would also see Lakewoodites get discounts on phone and cable services.

However, The folks at the East Cleveland Observer, through their major sponsors Hot Sauce Williams and advertiser Cleveland Clinic are looking to underwrite the entire WiFi Grid for East Cleveland. I am meeting with them this afternoon, to see if a similar plan for Lakewood would work.

Speaking with the Mayor Ed FitzGerald last night the comment was, "I do not care how it gets done, I just want to get it done."

FWIW
