I'm switching!

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

While not invited to the party of my people, the Democratic Party, I was able to spend some time with a good friend from the Republican side of life. I was taught much tonight, one is how inclusive and friendly the Rs are.

Jennifer, thank you for the eye-opening night.

I heard a lot of members of the Dems club weren't invited.

Hmmmm.

I should point out that I am not a member. But I do find it interesting that members were left off the list. Meanwhile Ryan Salo comes on the Deck and posts an open invite to share holiday cheer with the Lakewood Republican Party.

FWIW

Gee- maybe everyone who didn't get an invite should go to the republican Christmas party.

The only reason I got an invite was because I posted on here and raised a stink.

In this season of giving, I will give the Lakewood Republicans the gift of peace, quiet and enjoyment, by not showing up at their party.

I am an independent, and will continue to judge each topic, battle, election issue one at a time and not based on some abstract loyalty to one of the two parties, which seem more closer to one at this point in time.

I really have no complaint because unlike many, I am not a dues paying member, I make no meetings, and I give no input and help with no fundraisers.

My attention on this came from a small flurry of emails that came asking if I was going by members, and offers for "dates" to the event. Twenty years ago when I was a hot headed loud mouth jerk, i would have shown up. Now I tend to not go where I am not invited.

Steve Davis and I were out taking photos of Christmas lights, and listening to the new ODA 011. I got home early and went walking/patrolling. Walking past the Rush Inn I see some friends and stop to spread Christmas Cheer. The Republican hostess with the mostess, stops and ask why I was not at the party, and I explain. She then weaves a tale about how the "new" Republicans are very inclusive, and pointed out Ryan's invite as an example.

I just find it interesting.

My dear late mom used to say that there was good and bad in everything.

I'm sure that includes our political parties, as well.

I don't know when, exactly, we became such category-specific people with respect to our friends and neighbors.

I have friends across the political and religious spectrum. We get along just fine.

I hope that everyone; whether Democrats, Republicans, or whomever else, can start to look beyond single dimensions to the bigger picture of what is best for our city, our, nation, our world, and of course, ourselves.

This might be hard to do in an election year. The thing is, we always seem to be in an election year....

I'm not a member of the Democratic Party.
I wasn't invited to their Gathering.

But I went anyway, and had an enjoyable time.

Jeni Matousek throws great parties, one of my favorite party throwers in the city. If you noticed I mentioned Jennifer Scott as the Republican Hostess with the Mostess. Jeni Matousek, would fit that bill for the Democrats. and just to put the trifecta out there Jennifer Desilets, would be the hostess with the mostess for non-political parties.

However the queen of them all might be the LO Editor Heidi Hilty, that has parties never to be missed!

Hopefully with can get the Jenis all working on the LO Party.

Richard, you are a good person for taking the high road. I was merely having fun.

WOW, I'm honored to be included in such an elite group! 8)

Let the party planning begin!

Jim and other Jeni's send me a PM and we'll get the ball rolling on the LO, non-political, totally positive, fun filled extravaganza!

Just so anyone who may be interested knows...

You don't have to be a paid member of the LRO to attend the Party

And you don't have to drink the Kool-Aid 8)

The meatballs at the Coach House are awesome and they have $5 spaghetti and meatballs on Thursday.

Jim, you are more than welcome to come but I will allow you the gift of not having your head explode
