Tonight's St. Ed's home basketball game is being shown nationally on ESPN2.
Is this the first time that an event in Lakewood has been broadcast on live national TV?

No, in 1989 Sports Channel America televised the St. Ignatius-Euclid football game live from Lakewood Stadium. The game featured Euclid High Star and future Minnesota Viking Robert Smith. It was the first nationally televised high school football game. St. Ignatius won that contest 56-28 on their way to the second of nine OHSAA football titles.

This game was the first ever televised game at the home gym of a high school.
ESPN wanted to hold the game at a bigger venue, but St.Eds fought hard to have the event in their gym. ESPN had to bring extra auxiliary lighting in because the gym was too dark for them to film in.
the place was loud and lit up.
what an atmosphere. Photos to come soon...it's 2am and I'm finally getting started here!
