Morning Crossing Guard

Post by Beajay Michaud »

Could the schools get a crossing guard for the corner of Clarence and Detroit in the mornings? Problem is you can not see around Corkys Bar when you stop at the sign to see anyone walking down the side walk. Worse you can not see the boy that rides their bikes from the corner of Nicholson and cross Clarence without looking. I have seen so many close calls there. If you’re already committed to crossing Detroit some of the kids don't stop either, I have had them whip around the front of my car as I was cross Detroit.

Whatever happened to looking both ways before you cross a street?

Crossing Guards

Post by Linda Beebe »

Crossing Guards are hired and put in place by the Police Department. This past summer, school administrators did a drive around with the police department and submitted maps, numbers and walking patterns to the department because of the changes caused in walking patterns by the new schools.

We have made one adjustment since school started. Your concern is a good one; I will forward it to Mr. Walter at Garfield and to Mrs. Soeder at Central Office. You may want to contact Captain Hassling at the Lakewood Police department and share your concern.

Thank you for caring enough to make this post. Linda Beebe

Linda, Thanks.

My neighbor called me this morning because she just missed hitting two young boys at that corner. They came flying down the side walk on their bikes and went around the front of her bumper.

I live on Clarence and since the new school opened, this has become quite a problem area. It's scary and I worry that a kid is going to get hurt or killed soon.
